Dom Sherwood Sinks his Teeth into Vampire Academy

Social media explodes at the smallest mention of the film or its stars. A recent meet-and-greet at the Galleria with actors Zoey Deutch, Lucy Fry and Dominic Sherwood drew hundreds of fans - mostly female - and generated frenzied Twitter and Instagram posts.

"As soon I got announced for the film, my Twitter followers just jumped all of a sudden," said Sherwood, who plays brooding love interest Christian Ozera. "I had 50 friends following me on Twitter. All of a sudden, it just absolutely exploded." He now counts almost 17,000 followers.

If "Vampire Academy" is a success, it could mean big business for the actors. Six books could very well mean six, or more, films. The "Twilight" series led the most recent bloodsucking charge, and there's still plenty of bite left in the genre. Upcoming films include a new "Van Helsing" starring Tom Cruise, "Only Lovers Left Alive" withTilda Swinton and "Dracula Untold." The genre is on TV, too: "True Blood," "The Vampire Diaries," "The Originals" and "Dracula."
